Why are we being charged for an additional state filing?

Let me share some information about our state filing fees.

If you are already subscribed to QuickBooks Online Payroll, filing for the current state is free of charge. However, if you have set up an active employee for another state, then you'll be charged an additional fee per state.

If you want to stop these charges, here's what you need to do:

  • Inactivate all work locations in all other state.
  • Set the tax status for all employees to No Not Withhold.
  • Confirm that you wish to disable Multistate Plus support for that state.

From here, it will no longer provide support or reminders for tax payments and form filings to that state and be charged the additional Multistate Plus fee for that state.
