Answer

Hello there, normantward73,

Yes, you can temporarily suspend your payroll subscription and re-subscribe anytime until you receive the EIN.

Here's how to cancel your payroll service in QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Select My Payroll Service, then Account/Billing Info.
  3. Sign in to Intuit Account (My Account login) using your Intuit login credentials.
  4. In the Service Information section, click the Cancel link.
  5. Proceed with the process to cancel your payroll service.

For additional information, you can read through this article: Cancel Standard, Enhanced, or Basic payroll service.

To reactive your payroll service:

  1. Sign in to Intuit Account.
  2. On the Manage your QuickBooks page, select the product or service you would like to manage.
  3. Under Products & Services, select the Payroll Subscription tile.
  4. Click the Resubscribe link under the status.
  5. Validate if the information in the Reactivate Subscription fields are correct.
  6. Click Save and Continue.
  7. Review the Subscription details and the billing information, then click Reactivate.
  8. A pop-up message will show subscription has been reactivated. Click Got it!.
  9. It may take up to 24 hours for the reactivation of your subscription to fully complete. Your subscription will show Active once the reactivation is complete.

For other options on how to reactivate your payroll, feel free to read this article: Renew or reactivate your Desktop payroll service.

Also, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Payroll team to confirm your payroll is completely cancelled.

Here's how to contact them:

  1. Go to https://payroll.intuit.com/support/contact/?infoSrc=qs&service=1.
  2. Click Payroll.
  3. Click the View Contact Info.

You can now cancel your payroll subscription and won't be charged for the active employee.

Let me know if there's anything I can help you with concerning payroll. I'm always around whenever you my help.

People come to QuickBooks Learn & Support for help and answers—we want to let them know that we're here to listen and share our knowledge. We do that with the style and format of our responses. Here are five guidelines:

  1. Keep it conversational. When answering questions, write like you speak. Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible. When no other word will do, explain technical terms in plain English.
  2. Be clear and state the answer right up front. Ask yourself what specific information the person really needs and then provide it. Stick to the topic and avoid unnecessary details. Break information down into a numbered or bulleted list and highlight the most important details in bold.
  3. Be concise. Aim for no more than two short sentences in a paragraph, and try to keep paragraphs to two lines. A wall of text can look intimidating and many won't read it, so break it up. It's okay to link to other resources for more details, but avoid giving answers that contain little more than a link.
  4. Be a good listener. When people post very general questions, take a second to try to understand what they're really looking for. Then, provide a response that guides them to the best possible outcome.
  5. Be encouraging and positive. Look for ways to eliminate uncertainty by anticipating people's concerns. Make it apparent that we really like helping them achieve positive outcomes.
