Why isn't my windows desktop app working?

Yesterday my Desktop app would not launch.  I can log in through the browser but not the app.  I get a message that say QB encountered an error

Good day preston1214,

I have a few steps to share to get your Desktop app working again.

First, let’s reset your app data so you’ll be able to log in to your account.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Help menu on the navigation bar at the top.
  2. Click Reset App Data.
  3. Allow a moment for the process to complete, and then close the app.
  4. Be sure to right-click the app and Run as Administrator when re-opening.

If resetting the app doesn't fix the issue, I suggest you un-install and re-install the app.

To uninstall the app, please refer to this article and base on which version of Windows you're using under How do I uninstall The app? section: QuickBooks App for Windows and Mac: General support.

To re-install the app, here’s how:

  1. Double-click the file you downloaded to launch the installer.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Select Agree & Install.
  4. Wait for the installer to run the rest of the way through.
  5. Select Finish.

You can also check this article for the system requirements of QuickBooks app: QuickBooks App for Windows and Mac: General support.

Please let me know how it goes preston1214. I'm just around if you need help. Have a good day!

People come to QuickBooks Learn & Support for help and answers—we want to let them know that we're here to listen and share our knowledge. We do that with the style and format of our responses. Here are five guidelines:

  1. Keep it conversational. When answering questions, write like you speak. Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible. When no other word will do, explain technical terms in plain English.
  2. Be clear and state the answer right up front. Ask yourself what specific information the person really needs and then provide it. Stick to the topic and avoid unnecessary details. Break information down into a numbered or bulleted list and highlight the most important details in bold.
  3. Be concise. Aim for no more than two short sentences in a paragraph, and try to keep paragraphs to two lines. A wall of text can look intimidating and many won't read it, so break it up. It's okay to link to other resources for more details, but avoid giving answers that contain little more than a link.
  4. Be a good listener. When people post very general questions, take a second to try to understand what they're really looking for. Then, provide a response that guides them to the best possible outcome.
  5. Be encouraging and positive. Look for ways to eliminate uncertainty by anticipating people's concerns. Make it apparent that we really like helping them achieve positive outcomes.
