Intuit sold us and delivered W2s which are 4-up horizontal. QB 2019 payroll update does not yet support printing on these forms, which SSA has confirmed they want. WHEN?

WHEN will Intuit send through an update that supports 4-up horizontal W2s?  They shipped us these forms and SSA says they want them this way....    but we can't print them.  It's now Dec. 31.

Answer

Desktop will not print 4-up forms.  I just spent 30 minutes with an Intuit forms sales rep who didn't know that. Claimed it works until I pointed him to: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1760574-types-of-paper-available-for-printing-w-2-forms

"QuickBooks Desktop prints two W-2s per page and does not work with preprinted forms that have more than two W-2s per page. You can use W-2 forms purchased from Intuit or any approved third-party vendors. Check out our Form W-2 Kits at the Intuit Marketplace ."

The only stock I see for sale for QB desktop is 2-up:

You don't actually need any pre-printed forms.  You can print the W-2's on plain paper directly from QB for filing, like most other payroll forms.

I'd get a refund from Intuit and then print on plain paper.  They shouldn't have sold you the forms in the first place as they're not needed at all.

People come to QuickBooks Learn & Support for help and answers—we want to let them know that we're here to listen and share our knowledge. We do that with the style and format of our responses. Here are five guidelines:

  1. Keep it conversational. When answering questions, write like you speak. Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible. When no other word will do, explain technical terms in plain English.
  2. Be clear and state the answer right up front. Ask yourself what specific information the person really needs and then provide it. Stick to the topic and avoid unnecessary details. Break information down into a numbered or bulleted list and highlight the most important details in bold.
  3. Be concise. Aim for no more than two short sentences in a paragraph, and try to keep paragraphs to two lines. A wall of text can look intimidating and many won't read it, so break it up. It's okay to link to other resources for more details, but avoid giving answers that contain little more than a link.
  4. Be a good listener. When people post very general questions, take a second to try to understand what they're really looking for. Then, provide a response that guides them to the best possible outcome.
  5. Be encouraging and positive. Look for ways to eliminate uncertainty by anticipating people's concerns. Make it apparent that we really like helping them achieve positive outcomes.
