In order for QuickBooks to access your data file, update its program files and download payroll updates, there are a variety of programs that need to be cleared in your firewall. While it is not common, it does happen that a firewall may deny a QuickBooks related program access to a file or the Internet. In most cases all that is necessary is to get the latest updates for your firewall program or for Windows if you're using the Windows firewall. Intuit has worked with producers of firewall software to get our programs "white listed". When a firewall sees a program as "white listed", it automatically allows that program through without any other necessary action.

If your firewall appears to be preventing QuickBooks from performing some of its functions, and retrieving the latest updates for your firewall software doesn't resolve the issue, it may be necessary to manually configure your firewall software to allow QuickBooks process to function properly. Links to specific firewall software have been placed at the bottom of this article to assist you in configuring the brand of firewall you use. Here are the processes that QuickBooks uses when it runs.

Note: Please make note of the information for your version or print this article before using the links at the bottom.
