Fix Accountant's Changes Pending message in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll

If you see the message "Accountant's Changes Pending" in QuickBooks, your accountant has created a copy of your file. In the accountant’s copy they can work on transactions from previous fiscal periods while you're still working in your file. This way, they don't have to wait for you before they can get started. When your accountant finishes, you can import the accountant's changes into your company file.

If you have an accountant’s pending, certain QuickBooks features are disabled. If you remove these restrictions, you won't be able to import the accountant's changes into your company file. Talk to your accountant first if you want to remove it.

Payroll restrictions in Accountant’s copy

In Accountant’s copy, you can’t do the following: 

  • Create, edit, delete, or void Direct Deposit paychecks and checks for 1099 vendors
  • Enter, edit, or delete timesheet data
  • Send QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Assisted Data or Direct Deposits to Intuit

Remove accountant restriction

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Send Company File.
  2. Select Accountant's copy, then Client Activities.
  3. Select Remove Restrictions.
  4. Select Yes, I want to remove the Accountant's Copy restrictions, then OK.
