Quickbooks-Self Employed data won't transfer to TurboTax Self-Employed

SOLVEDby QuickBooks22Updated over 1 year ago

Learn what to do if your data doesn't move over automatically.

If you sent your accounting data from QuickBooks Self-Employed but it didn't appear in TurboTax, don't worry. There are certain tasks you need to do before the export can finish. Here's what to check in QuickBooks Self-Employed and TurboTax Self-Employed.

Note: If you already entered info into TurboTax Self-Employed before you started exporting, it may block data. Reach out to our support team so we can help you restart the process.

Step 1: Start from QuickBooks Self-Employed

You need to start the export process from the QuickBooks Self-Employed. If you started from TurboTax Self-Employed directly, need to sign out and sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed.

When you start the export, make sure you are not logged into any other Quickbooks product. This can cross wires and block data.

Note: Also, check which version of TurboTax you have. You can send your data to TurboTax Self-Employed or TurboTax Live Self-Employed.

Step 2: Complete the tax checklist in QuickBooks Self-Employed

Make sure you completed the tax checklist in the Annual taxes tab in QuickBooks Self-Employed. If the checklist is still visible, there is more prep to complete before you can export.

Step 3: Follow the questionnaire in TurboTax Self-Employed

After you export everything from QuickBooks Self-Employed, TurboTax asks you to complete a questionnaire. It goes over basic tax and business info. Follow the onscreen steps for each question. There are several questions so it will take time.

Important: Complete the entire questionnaire in order before doing anything else in TurboTax Self-Employed. Don't navigate away or you may stop the export.

Complete all the questions up to the Wages and income page in the Federal tab. When you get to the Self-employment income and expenses section, the export is complete. You should see all your data.

Important: If you followed these steps and see $0 or a Needs review message in this section, don't worry. Please reach out to our support team so we can help.

Step 4: Check for messages in the Schedule C section of TurboTax Self-Employed

After you answer all the questions, you can look for your QuickBooks Self-Employed data. Type “jump to Schedule C” in the search bar to go to the Schedule C section.

Look for any messages asking you to review your info. Follow the onscreen steps to do the review.

If you still need help, reach out to our team for support.
