Update vehicle info in QuickBooks Self-Employed

SOLVEDby QuickBooks27Updated over 1 year ago

Learn how to enter and change info about the vehicle you use for work.

If you track mileage with the QuickBooks Self-Employed app, you should also enter info about the vehicle you use. QuickBooks Self-Employed keeps track of your mileage and the value of your vehicle, whether you own or lease it. And if you use it for both personal and business trips, don't worry. We help you estimate your business travel so you can make accurate deductions.

When it's time to do your taxes, all the info you need is in one place. Here's how to enter and update your vehicle info in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Enter your vehicle info

When you set up your vehicle for the first time, we recommend using a web browser.

On a web browser:

  1. Select the profile ⚙ icon and then Vehicle info.
  2. In the Vehicle info ▼dropdown, select the tax year.
  3. Enter the name and year of your vehicle.
  4. In the How much did the vehicle cost field, enter how much you purchased it for.
  5. Select an Ownership status option.
  6. In the Date you bought the vehicle field, select when you bought it.
  7. In the Date placed in service field, select when you started using it for work.
  8. Use the Estimated business miles slider and make an estimate. This setting helps you with tax estimates. You'll track the actual mileage with the app.
  9. When you're done, select Save.

On iOS (iPhone or iPad)

  1. Open the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  2. Select your profile icon.
  3. Select Vehicle.
  4. Select the Tax Year section, then select the tax year.
  5. In the Nickname field, enter the name of your vehicle. Tip: You may also want to enter the year like this: [My work car: 2020].
  6. Enter your vehicle's odometer readings for the beginning and end of the tax year.
  7. When you're done, select Save.
