Registration of QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale causes the error

Error 176103: Unable to activate the product

This error is usually caused by one or more of the following:

  • Incorrect system time and date
  • Incorrect validation code
  • Damaged entitlement files
  • Incorrect license number
 
Note:
  • Do not use hyphens or spaces when entering validation code.
  • Contact Technical support if you need to verify the validation code.

Solution 1: Check the computer's system date

From the system tray

  1. On the system tray, right click the time or date and select Change date and time settings.
  2. From the Date and Time window, click change date and time.
  3. Update your computer's time and date.

From the Control Panel

  1. On your keyboard press Windows+R to open the run command.
  2. Type in control, then select OK to open the Control Panel.
  3. Click Clock, Language and Region.
  4. Select Date and Time.
  5. Update your computer's time and date.

Solution 2: Delete the contents of the Intuit Entitlement Folder

Note: You may need to Display hidden files and folders or search for files using Windows to follow this solution.
  1. Go to C:\Program Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8.
  2. On your keyboard, press CTRL+A to select all files in the folder and press Delete.
  3. Open QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale and complete the registration process.
