Error “Firewall or connection Issue”

Note: Intuit Data Protect connects to the Internet through http ports 80 and 443. If you are able to browse the Internet and log into secure web sites, Intuit Data Protect should work.

Resolve the error

Solution 1: Run the IDP Diagnostic tool

If the Diagnostic tool detects an issue with a firewall or third party security software, you will need to reconfigure the software and/or hardware to allow access to Intuit Data Protect Files.

For information about configuring your security software and/or hardware, please check the manufacturer’s website and add the following files for exceptions:

  • C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect\IntuitDataProtect.exe
  • C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect\IbuEnghost.exe
  • C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect\QBIDPServices.exe

Solution 2: Add Windows Firewall Ports

  1. Press the windows Start key and enter Control Panel, go to System and Security.
  2. Choose Windows Firewall, and click Advanced Settings.
  3. On the left side of the Advanced Settings window, click Inbound Rules and then click New Rule from the right side of the same window.
  4. Enter the ports and click Next.
  5. Follow the prompts and follow the same process for outbound rules.
    • Incoming Port: 80
    • Outgoing Ports: 443, 16841

Solution 3: Clear the Internet Explorer cache, cookies, temporary files and SSL state

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools. Note: If you can’t find Tools on your browser, press ALT once to show hidden tabs.
  3. Under the General tab go to Browsing History section and click Delete.
  4. Select Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, Form Data and InPrivate Filtering data check box and uncheck Preserve Favorites and website data check box. Click Delete to clear the items.
  5. Click Content.
  6. Click Clear SSL state and at the confirmation window.

Solution 4: Add Trusted Sites

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Click Security.
  4. Uncheck the box for Enable Protected Mode.
  5. Click Trusted sites.
  6. Click Sites.
  7. Uncheck Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone box.
  8. Add *, * and * Click Close.
  9. Click Privacy tab then click Sites.
  10. In the Address of Website box, add the websites: * and * Click Allow each time you add the web addresses.
  11. Click OK.
