This article guides you through setting up alignment for printing checks/cheques.

Important: If this is the first time you are printing checks/cheques on pre-printed forms, additional setup is required. Click here to perform the steps.
- Select the Create (+) icon on the upper right, then from Vendors, choose Print Checks.
- At the bottom of the page, select Print setup.
- The window changes to Print checks setup. Choose No, continue setup at the bottom of the page.
- On the next screen, select No, continue setup again.
- Now you’re on Fine-tune alignment, drag the grid inside the large square to the place where it appears on your printout. This lets QuickBooks figure out how to adjust the alignment.
- Select View preview and print sample in the lower left and choose Print at the bottom.
- After the sample is printed on plain paper, hold it up to the light against a check/cheque and see if the alignment is correct.
- If you still need to do some fine tuning, close the sample and then go back to the grid to make adjustments, then print a fresh sample.
- Select Finish Setup when your sample’s alignment looks correct.
- Apply the following changes: (Changes should apply to most printer versions – make changes for the options you see below)
- Page Scaling: set to None
- Auto-Rotate and Center must not be checked
- Make sure that Choose Paper Source by PDF size is checked.
If you’re using Adobe 10.1.2, these options are slightly different:
- Under Page Size & Handling
- Select Actual Size
- Select Choose paper source by PDF size
- Under Orientation
- Select Auto portrait/landscape

Option 1: Select a check/cheque type and print a sample
- From the left navigation bar, select Expenses then choose Print Checks on the upper right.
- At the bottom of the page, go to Print setup.
- Select the type of checks/cheques that you have: voucher or standard.
Note: If only one type is available, it means that it is the only type of pre-printed check that is supported in your country.
- Load blank paper into your printer. You'll print on blank paper first so that if you need to correct alignment, you won't waste actual checks/cheques.
- Select the View preview and print sample button. Depending on your browser, you can select the Print icon at the top of the preview to print.
- Place your print sample on top of a blank check/cheque page and hold both of them up to the light. If the information lines up in the correct areas of the blank check/cheque, you can now print checks/cheques without further setup. If not, go to Option 2.

Note: To get to the Fine-tune alignment page, you need to select NO, continue setup at the bottom right of the Print checks setup page, twice.
- On the Fine-tune alignment page, you must compare the alignment grid in the preview window with where it appears in the large square on the page.
- Drag the grid inside the large square to the place where it appears on your printout. QuickBooks Online will figure out how to adjust the alignment.
Note: When you drag the grid, the horizontal and vertical numbers beneath the large square will change. These numbers are horizontal and vertical offsets that QuickBooks Online uses to figure out where exactly to print the check/cheque amount.
- After dragging the grid, repeat step 1.f and check if it is already aligned. If not, continue to fine-tune until the alignment is OK.
