Fix your company file or network with the QuickBooks File Doctor

  1. You should log into Windows as the admin user to install and run the free QuickBooks File Doctor tool.
  2. Download the free tool.
  3. If prompted, select Save and then launch the saved file.
  4. Follow the built-in instructions to install.
  5. Once installed, double-click the File Doctor icon on your desktop

Overview

Download the free tool, choose Run (or Save and open the saved file) and follow the built-in instructions to install. Once installed, double-click the QuickBooks File Doctor icon on your desktop. Or, if you want more information, read on and click the blue links that interest you.
Important: The Windows admin user should install and run this tool. The network tests will not run for a Windows user that is not the admin.

About the tool:

  • Works only on US versions of QuickBooks. If you are using the UK or the  Canadian version of QuickBooks, you can use the Company File Diagnostic Tool:
  • Works on .qbw or .qba files only. (Learn more about file extensions.)
  • File repair and Network diagnosis is on by default.
  • Use the Advanced Settings button to run file only or network only diagnostics.

    • Windows setup problems
    • Network setup problems
