If you need information about Automatic and Manual online updates for downloaded banking transactions, you’ve come to the right place!

Here are some highlights:

  • Most accounts work with automatic updates. For some that may require manual update, you’ll be notified in the connection interview.
  • With automatic update, your online banking account updates normally begin around 10 pm Pacific time.
    • If the QuickBooks Online server is unable to obtain updated information for a particular online account, it will attempt the update up to five additional times over the next five hours.
    • The information we receive is dependent upon what your bank or financial institution shares with us. Some might only send new information every other day, weekly, or some other time increment.
  • QuickBooks Online cannot perform automatic updates during your bank's scheduled maintenance. However, you may still be able to receive updated transactions by performing a manual update.
  • A manual update will look back 90 days and download any new transactions listed within that period of time. That way if you have to skip days between updates, the download will still get the most current information when you connect to your account.
  • If you're seeing old data after completing an automatic update, you may need to do a manual update.
  • You cannot turn automatic updates on and off and you can't control specifically what specific items are downloaded and available to add to your bank register.

To see the exact time of automatic updates:

  1. From the left menu, select Banking then Banking.
  2. Check the summary box at the top that displays account balance and last update time.
