The Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package contains library files required to run applications developed with Visual C++. If your computer does not have the correct version of Visual C++ installed, QuickBooks Desktop will install it automatically. If the Visual C++ installation is damaged or removed, you must reinstall it.

Detailed Instructions

Important: These steps focus on the Windows operating system, which is not an Intuit product. If you are not comfortable doing these steps on your own, you can find expert assistance by consulting your computer's manufacturer or a Windows expert. If the difficulty persists after performing these steps, contact your computer's manufacturer or Microsoft.

To uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package:

  1. Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++.
    1. Close all open programs.
    2. On your keyboard, press Windows + E to open the Computer window.
    3. Click Uninstall or change a Program.
    4. Select the version of Microsoft Visual C++ for your version of QuickBooks:
      • QuickBooks or Enterprise: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable
    5. Click Uninstall and follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the program.
    6. Restart your computer when prompted.
  2. Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++.
    1. Insert the QuickBooks CD in your CD drive. If the QuickBooks installation window opens, close it.
    2. On your keyboard, press Windows + E to open the Computer window.
    3. Browse to D:\ThirdParty\CRT9 or D:\ThirdParty\CRT8, where D: is your CD drive letter.
    4. Double-click vc_red.msi or vcredist_x86.exe and follow the prompts to install the software.
