Security Updates to QuickBooks Desktop

As part of our continuing commitment to protecting you and your customers’ information, our most recent QuickBooks Desktop update is designed to secure sensitive data – including credit card data and personally identifiable information (PII) such as Social Security Numbers and other employer and employee identification numbers.

All users who have the “Credit Card Protection” feature on, or whose QuickBooks Desktop file contains sensitive data such as credit card data or PII will be asked to set up a password to verify that the person attempting to access the account is authorized to view such data.

QuickBooks detects the presence of the following data to ensure strong controls:

  • Employee and Employer Social Security Number
  • Employer EIN
  • Employer Bank Details (Routing Number, Account Number)
  • Vendor Tax ID
