I am entering my first payrolll since joining uickbooks, however the YTD column does not accrue. Each check I write still has the exact same figures in YTD as the actual check being written.l How is this going to help when I do payroll tax reports?
If you are starting to use QB for payroll mid year, then you need to enter the YTD history for payroll. The payroll set up wizard walks you throught entering the info. However, if this is in fact, the first payroll, then the YTD would equal that paycheck. The 2nd paycheck should have different YTD totals.

We are having the same issue - the same two employees have worked all year, and the YTD numbers on each paycheck, are just for that paycheck. this client has been on QuickBooks for quite some time, with no problems.
