Why would the balance sheet show assets in the wrong order?

My client has QuickBooks Pro 2009. The balance sheet shows the assets in a different order than the way they are on the chart of accounts. Why is that and how do I fix this?

All the accounts start with a numeric prefix, but the numbering option isn't used in the chart of accounts (COA). Assets start with 1800, 1801, 1802, etc. and subaccounts start with 100, 200 and 300. The balance sheet shows subaccounts for 1813 through 1817 in the wrong order. The 200 accounts are showing up before the 100 accounts. I can't figure out what the problem is. Would selecting the numbering option in the preferences and editing all the accounts fix this?
