This is Tamara from QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.  The 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax should only be deducted from an employee's paycheck once the employee's Medicare wages are in excess of $200,000 in 2013.  You can visit this Knowledge Base article to learn more about how QuickBooks Payroll is supporting the Additional Medicare Tax - QuickBooks Payroll: Additional Medicare Tax.  The article includes a link to the Additional Medicare Tax User Guide for QuickBooks that provides additional information.

You mention that you noticed a line on Form 941 that says Medicare employee addl tax.  Where in QuickBooks are you seeing this Form 941?

If this answers your question, please mark this as solved.

Also, please help me improve my performance by answering a short survey that will be emailed to you from the community.

Thank you.

I am not sure what your question is.
But probably, NO.
The additional medicare tax does not calculate until the Employe has earned $200,000 in 2013 taxabble wages.

I hope this helps. Let us know by clicking on the "This Solved my Question" button or posting back with more information.
Thanks.
