Why can't I open an accountants copy file transfer? The transfer file is in QB2011 - I have QB2012 Acct.
Please elaborate further on the symptoms.
Exactly what happens when you attempt to open the file? Is there an error message? Does the computer freeze? Does it erase the file you are trying to open? Does the keyboard melt? ;)
Process seems to go fine... but then I get a message that says my membership is not currently active and thus cannot convert the file.
OK, thanks - that helps a lot!
I don't personally use the Accountant Edition, but I know it is supplied to QB ProAdvisors. I suppose you have to maintain an active ProAdvisor membership to use that feature. Assuming that's accurate, Accountant Edition would have to know your ProAdvisor credentials to verify with Intuit.
If you are a new ProAdvisor, you may need to activate your membership at https://proadvisor.intuit.com/login/
If you are a ProAdvisor with an existing active membership, you should probably contact QB ProAdvisor Tech Support at https://proadvisor.intuit.com/member/support/
If you are not a ProAdvisor or your membership is not still active, that may disable the extra functionality in Accountant Edition.
You can still open the accountant's copy by removing the restrictions. For details, see http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/pages/inproducthelp/Core/QB2K11/ContentPackage/Core/File_Accountant_Copy/cancel_acct_copy.html
Good luck!
Ok, so let me get this straight. I buy the software. I install the software. I register the software... but cannot use the accountant transfer file because I first must "subscribe to the accountants file transfer service".
The message continues to say, "You can subscribe at no cost by becoming a ProAdvisor, or subscribe "here" for a minimal fee..."
So you click on the subscribe at no cost and you're directed to a sales page of which advisertises software to be purchased!! - I already have the software!
So you click on the "subscribe for a minimal fee" and again directed to a sales page to buy software!!
Removing the restrictions prevents me from working within an accountants copy and being able to send it back to the client.
What are my options? And what are the real "costs" for this so-called subscription???
It's about $10 per year. Call Intuit to sign up for it.
You can have the client save the file and send it to you without using Intuit's Accountant's Copy Transfer Service. They can send the file free using www.sendthisfile.com using something like Dropbox or many other options.
