Why can I not restore a backup from Quickbooks Pro 2009 ( R14, vista) to Quickbooks Pro 2011 (R5, windows 7)?

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows

I have just installed Quickbooks Pro 2011 (R5) on my Windows 7 pc. I am trying to restore a backup from Quickbooks Pro 2009 (R14) and every time in the i get an error message stating quickbooks has stopped working, and then the program closes. Help!

Try a few things, just to be sure.

On your 2009, download all updates.
Rebuild & verify your data.
Make a backup.
Copy the backup to your hard drive (new PC?)
Open 2011 and make sure you have the latest backup.
Go to File > Open or Restore company > Restore > Local, then browse to where you saved the file.

I think Quickbooks Pro 2009 is up to date... i ran the update feature and it said everything was good and i also just installed R14.

I made the backup after everything was updated. Is that different than rebuilding and verifying?

I copied the backup to the harddrive of the new pc.

2011 is the most current version, and i restored it that way. The backup will restore, but then when i go to open it the program freezes and force closes again.
