Why are my popups not showing or pages failing to load or certain transactions failing to save in Google Chrome?
This applies to QuickBooks Online Plus and Basic while using Google Chrome on either Windows, Mac or Linux.
If you are using Google Chrome as your browser to access QuickBooks Online, you might notice that QuickBooks doesn't detect that a popup blocker is active and popups are being blocked. Unlike say Firefox, IE or Safari where QuickBooks will prompt saying a popup blocker was detected, it presently cannot detect Chrome blocking popups due to the browser's way of dealing with popups. And users will get no notification for it like they do on other browsers.
Google Chrome can be rather silent when it blocks popups and many times the user might not even see that a popup was blocked. A popup can be a mini-interview like those seen on transaction pages (eg: Bills, Estimates etc) or it can be a simple popup asking for some user intervention (like Quick add dialogs). If these popups get blocked, there is a good chance that your page will fail to load completely (your browser status icon might suggest it's still loading or waiting for page to load) or when you try to save a transaction it just gets stuck and does nothing or when you try to refresh and/or navigate away from that page, it just sticks there and does nothing. All these can be because the popup which was blocked is preventing the browser to proceed.
Hence if you just starting to use Chrome you will have to explicitly add qbo.intuit.com in Chrome's popup allow list. When Google blocks a popup, you will see it as a small window icon with a X mark in the address bar over to the right. Select Always allow popups from qbo.intuit.com and then click Done. Restart your browser.

You can also add QuickBooks Online to the popup white list as follows:
- Click the Tools icon on the right (Windows/Linux) or Chrome menu (Mac).
- Select Options (Windows/Linux) or Preferences (Mac).
- Click the Under the Hood tab.
- Click Content settings in the Privacy section.
- Click the Pop-ups tab.
- Click Exceptions.
- Add qbo.intuit.com to be allowed.
- Close to save your setting and restart your browser.
