That's a loaded question. I have been using a Brother HL 6050 D for a couple of years. Cost less than $400. Ink cartridges are very reasonably priced, a lot less than most. Speed and quality are both very good. Prior to that I had been using some costly HP printers. The way I look at the Brother is that I can probably get 50,000 or more copies from it.

We've always had good luck with HPs. The one next to me is over 200,000 pages.

I've got an HP4050 and intend to get another one next year... whatever the latest version of this printer is. It's an incredible workhorse. We refill the toners a couple of times on our own and print everything in full quality mode because the cost to refull the huge toner is only about $16 if you buy the powder and drill your own hole. It's fun too!
