Which Blogging Software to Use?

We are setting up my blog, Eclecdish, today, and I'm wondering which blogging software people out there use? Kira's got a Typepad account already, but it seems like I will have to have a separate account in order to be an author on the blog? Then, the SixApart Help page is very cryptic and makes it seem like I will have to pay extra for my own Typepad account (even if I am blogging on a blog we pay for on Typepad)?Would it make more sense for me to set up my own account so that I am the owner/full author, and then Kira could be a guest author? Then, in that case, should I just investigate other blogging software. I noticed when I research other food blogs, that everyone is on Blogspot. Is that because it's free? Thanks!Jeff

I'm confused too. We just got a note that you have a free Typepad account that allows you to be a guest author. Their member communications are very unclear.

Maybe we should try blogspot (if it's really free), and then decide? I haven't mapped the domain (www.eclecdish.com) to your blog yet anyway.

In case you are facing the same issue, here's what we decided to do.

We went with Typepad over Blogger for the following reasons:

* I already had a Typepad account that I use for two other blogs

* Typepad had better templates out of the box, and the look & feel of the Typepad design was nicer

* Typepad seems to have more widgets that you can use

Hope this helps other folks.

Kira

I would recommend using Wordpress over either Typepad or Blogger. Wordpress has a larger community of users and has many more plugins and additions for industry specific businesses.

I have setup all three platforms and also find Wordpress to have better results in the search engines when properly used. The Wordpress program is free to use and there are hundreds of templates and themes available for free from the growing community of users.

now, this was a few years ago, but... i find typepad much more difficult to use. i went with blogger because it was the easiest user experience. i was sharing sharing my wedding planning blog with my entire wedding party, which included some very technically challenged family members! my mom never quite figured it out, but my peace corps bride's maid who had been away from technology for a few years eventually learned to love it!

I agree with SocialMediaSystems that WordPress is the way to go. Far and away the best SEO results. If you are looking to free try wordpress.com Joint hosted solution like typepad. I have used all three and now use WP exclusively.

If you want the most optimized and flexible get a hosting plan that feature auto installed WP. I like POWWEB for that.

Whichever way you go make sure to forward and mask you domain. Branding is important and you want to build equity in that domain, not " www.you.blogspot.com" etc.

If you ever want to change systems in the future it will be able to import your posts and not lose Google ranking since the permalinks will still reference your unique domain.

Otherwise it will be like starting over with no Google history, any posts in their index will lead to "page not found"

Hope this helps.

If you are technically savvy, you may consider this &lta href="http://asymptomatic.net/blogbreakdown.htm"&gtblog software chart&lt/a&gt. This is a great resource that breaks down the different blog software available.

My vote for WordPress. I use WordPress's software to essentially run my website. I post probably, 15 news articles a day with it.

It takes a little extra time to customize the templates exactly the way you want it. But it's well worth the time. Besides, there are hundreds of free templates out there that you can use and customize.

Additionally, I would recommend getting a dedicated domain name for your site.
