Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. I keep my company files under each client's file folder on my hard drive. Backup copies are best kept somewhere else so they can be easily obtained in case of a computer crash. I backup my files and store them on discs, and I also use Carbonite so my system is always backed up.

Thanks Monique...that is what I do as well.

I should have specified that I am inquiring for a client who has his own copy of QuickBooks.  A better question would be:

Where is the best place for a client to keep their company file?

I've found for clients it's best if they keep their file where they can find it easily if they need to, otherwise they tend to panic! I make a folder on their harddrive for Accounting and keep it there.
