Here is a link to the IRS website that discusses what are deductible expenses for a small business:

http://www.irs.gov/businesses/...

You can also review IRS Publication 535:

http://www.irs.gov/publication...

These should help and of course you should contact your tax professional if you have any additional specific questions.

PLEASE MARK THIS QUESTION SOLVED. Your feedback is important to me so I can evaluate how well I am answering your questions.

I am a freelance mua also and the only way you can claim expenses is if you got paid for doing the makeup within the same year your expenses occurred. like me pent tons of money on classes and products last year but did not have any paid clients, so the IRS calls my expenses start up fees and I can't claim start up fees. so I will be getting paid this year. I also know that you can claim gas money, lunches with client at restaurants, um all kind of supplies like ink for your printing, websites, just keep all you receipts and make sure you have contracts and consultation documents schedule book, anything you can use to prove that you did in fact got paid, if you don't get paid for a services you can't get a tax return, and when you do get paid for a service you have to pay taxes. good luck.
