Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

What corp number do I use for an LLC choosing to file as corp???

LLC chosing corp status -- filing CA return 100-S for LLC having chosen to be taxed as corp. 100-S requires corp number, but there is a file number not corp number. What to do?

There should be a FEIN, which is the Federal designation. CA also has the Secretary of State number, which must exist before the LLC begins doing any business in CA.

When anyone doing nothing needs help, I will gladly help that person do nothing.

According to FTB there is a corp number issued as soon as you submit anything to FTB. However in our case, nothing has been submitted, so we cannot e-file the return. BTW Spidell claimes that 568 is not due for an LLC taxed as corp, so apparently no LLC fees, just the corp. tax.

After the FTB receives the 100-S and discovers you are filing as a corporation, not an LLC, they will issue the client a corporation number to be used henceforth for returns and estimated payments.  Unfortunately, this means you cannot e-file the first return, but must paper file.
