The benefit is the satisfaction of knowing you have helped people. There is no value in them - although we kid about redeeming our points from a mythical points catalogue, or trading them for cool stuff.
Not mythical, Debi... Dusty did get his new sweeper and MJ got a new kettle for his still.

I explain them as game points. Everyone likes to get a high score in any activity that is scored.
The person who asked the question and everyone who benefits from a reply can give a point for an answer. The person who asked a question can also mark a reply "solved" and give a lot of points.
Accumulated points carry forward from year to year. That is the reason than some people on The Leaderboard have a very high number of total points.
Sometimes Intuit decides to give a new title to some as a result of the quality of that person's answers.

Tax Time (See * below)
I was able to get a new sweeper that I thought really sucked because my place was really clean once I started to use it.
Then I as able to get a new Floor Cleaner (does carpets, hardwood and tile flooring). After I used my new Floor Cleaner I realized that my sweeper did not suck as much as I thought it did.
Now I have my sights set on the new corded headphones. It has a 300' foot cord so can I walk up to 300' away from the phone and still use it
DustZ
*In case you did not already figure it out I did not get those items from the points catalog. We just like to have a little fun while stressing out over taxes and helping others with their problems.
PS: I used to be Dusty but IRMN STOLE my y in a rigged game so I found a spare Z that I use now. Kind of nice since my real name starts with Z.
Hey, my toaster oven with the meat thermometer I received with my points is a valuable addition to my kitchen. It works great thawing popcicles.

TaxTime - I think the best way to summarize points is to borrow the lyrics from a poplular anti-Vietnam war song from back in the late sixties:
I said, points, huh
Good God, y'all
What are they good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
Yeah, the neighbors weren't too crazy about the howling but I think the singing may be bringing in even more complaints.
When did James Brown sing "War"? I thought it was Edwin Starr. I didn't think I drank that much back then.
a coyote who sings James Brown... I like it!
Even more impressive since it's actually Edwin Starr that he's imitating. I know several coyotes, and even a feral hog, who can do passable James Browns.
Actually, I looked it up after I was told that I was imitating James Brown and found out that James Brown did sing it along with a few others but Edwin Starr was the main guy. But based on the calls from the neighbors, I'm guessing you would have been better off guessing William Hung as the one being imitated.

I don’t know if this is a good time or not, but I would like to thank Intuit for that new Lund ProV fishing boat that they gave me for having the most points in the ProSeries forum last year. I can hardly wait for spring to try it out.
I've got my luterod, my luteminnow, and my lutenet all ready to go.
Don't know much about fishing do you Debi? Everybody knows you have to use luteminnows for lutefisk. You start throwing luteworms out there, you are liable to snag a lutebird instead.
Nope, don't know much about fishing for lutefisk. Trout like worms.
Trout like worms, but lutefisk are very picky. The bait has to have the right odor and consistency.
