Virginia residents claiming credit for nonresident MD tax-Lacerte error

Lacerte : 2010

For 2010 and 2009 individual returns, Lacerte is pulling the wrong "Qualifying taxable income on which other state's tax is based".  This results in the credit being overstated.  Thanks to Tim/jwscpa48 for pointing it out.  See http://community.intuit.com/posts/va-schedule-osc-and-md-form-505nr for discussion.

I just reported it to support and I assume Tim will, also. Meanwhile I am searching for affected clients.

I thought other users would like to know about this.

Update:  I used the "new" email support system to report this on July 29 and attached an affected file. My reply came August 8.  The answer was basically-you are responsible for checking the accuracy of the return and I should override to get the correct answer.  They said they would report it to the development team.  So I have no expectation it will be fixed.

Today I received an email from a fellow Lacerte user with the same issue.  He called Lacerte support yesterday and was told they have no record of this issue and asked him to email an affected return.

That doesn't sound very good, that an expensive program like Lacerte should take the attitude "You, the user, are responsible and should just override if we do something wrong."  That's the sort of thing one would expect from a cheap product ("you get what you pay for") but it sounds as if in this instance, we DON'T get what we pay for!  And this is especially so if they "forget" that Person A e-mailed a particular problem, when Person B also has the same problem.

I checked on this and it has been reported to our development team. So far, there is not information on a resolution.
