Updated urgent message ? Microsoft Windows Update may cause ProSeries print

Updated ? Urgent message for ProSeries customers Issue On April 8, Microsoft issued several Windows updates. Some ProSeries customers who have installed the updates received an error message (Error Code 4-0) and are unable to e-file or print tax returns. Workaround Solutions This issue is not affecting all ProSeries customers; but, depending upon your system settings, you may be scheduled to get automatic updates from Microsoft. Because you are working during this critical period before the April 15 filing date, we recommend the following to avoid possible impact: ? Check the systems settings on your PC regarding automatic updates. You may not want updates to automatically install until after April 15. Instructions for changing the PC settings for automatic updating in XP are available on Microsoft?s site at: http://support.microsoft.com/k... and are summarized here: 1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then press ENTER. 2. Click the Automatic Updates tab, and then click to select one of the scheduling options. Note: If you choose a day for automatic scheduling, you may want to consider making it after the April 15 filing deadline. Instructions for changing the automatic updating settings in Vista are available at http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/08603313-b94f-4597-ae20-b4267df16bb91033.ms.... If you are experiencing a problem printing or e-filing through ProSeries, you should uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0. For installation directions, please visit our support site at http://www.proseries.com/suppo.... We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue with the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. We are working closely with Microsoft to resolve the issue. The ProSeries Team

Thanks for these instructions. We cannot print or efile any returns this morning, but our "Error 4-0" code is related to "our product is not licensed" and asks us to contact technical support. I've checked the hard drive for the update you wrote about but it's not there.

I'm waiting for further instructions, or better yet, for this problem to be corrected by Proseries so I can move forward with preparing extensions and the final returns for 4/15!

If you have any suggestions, I'll be reading this website today

Jennifer

Some people are getting Error 4-0 code, which can be related to licensing. The issue relates to a conflict between ProSeries and one of the Windows updates that Microsoft issued earlier during the week.

If you follow the instructions on the Error 4-0 for uninstalling and reinstalling the Microsoft update, it should fix your problem.

We are continuing to work with Microsoft on this issue. I will check with our technical teams and issue another post as soon as I get concrete information.

On April 8, Microsoft issued several Windows updates. Some ProSeries customers who installed the updates received an error message (Error Code 4-0) related to the failure of ".NET 2.0 SP1" failing to install. Microsoft is working on a resolution for this problem for upcoming releases and in the interim has created a supported tool that can reduce the resolution time to overcome the ?.NET 2.0 SP1 failed install? issue if it occurs. This tool has been tested by ProSeries support, and Microsoft has successfully used this tool on non-Intuit customers as well.

With the April 15 filing deadline behind us, customers should resume their normal practice of accepting Microsoft's recommended updates to minimize risk associated with not being current... and then run the resolution tool if there is a problem in running ProSeries 2007. We have posted the tool and additional information at http://www.proseries.com/suppo...
