Universal Accounting
Can anybody tell me what they think of this program for someone who is already a CPA (primarily taxes)?

Hi. What tax resources did you use to train your preparers if you have staff? I'm looking for resources that I can use to teach my future tax preparers. In other forums, there was suggestion to use H & R Block, but the goal is to not send future employees to them to learn. I want to be able to provide the training so that they can work for me. Do you use Proseries, make up your own or what...
Thanks in advance.
I'm a cpa and have used qb for w/u of clients for 10 yrs and like it. It's great for the small to med size business that has a modest inventory. If you need a detailed large inventory, it might not be good.
I've no employees, so I don't need to train anyone. However, I do periodically receive ads for qb training. You can send your employees there. Check the web site.
I also use ProSeries for all taxes and like it.
Cynpear,
I purchased the Universal Accounting package about a year ago for which they now have a tax program as well. I have not used the tax package, so I can't comment there. However, in regards to the Accounting package, I think it would benifit you since your primarily taxes, verses accounting. In addition, the package is great for training future employees. I wouldn't recommend the package if your a CPA with a strong accounting background. Please let me know if you have any specific questions regarding the software.

What type of background did you have before you purchased the Universal Accounting? Did it give you what you needed to handle different clients? I have some quickbooks experience but I do not have the comfort level to offer my serivces out there yet.
I have a strong background in Taxes and accounting. However, I was out of the accounting field for a few years for which I was looking to brush up on my skills, especially for specific industries. I actually just started an accounting & tax business with my wife. She handles the bookkeeping and I handle the accounting, bookkeeping and taxes. I didn't get that much benefit from the coarse, but it did help. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't purchase the software for myself, but would purchase it if I was training employees. It does offer some good benefits if your looking for guidance. Unfortunately, the package doesn't prepare you for the real world of bookkeeping (Theory verses practice). However, it will get you close to that. Hope that helps.
What do you think would be the best way to prepare for doing bookkeeping and or tax?
