First, thank you for choosing Intuit's QuickBooks Accounting 2009 for Mac! Additionally, I would like to offer you another path to reach the same goal, until a permanent fix is implemented.

You can choose to restore a backup derived from:

(Note: If, you have access to your company file from a version listed below, ex. [company name].qbw, restoring a backup is not necessary.)

* QuickBooks 2006

* QuickBooks 2007

* QuickBooks 2008

Once you have access to your company file in a QuickBooks version listed above access Knowledge Base Article:

“Converting a company file between QuickBooks for Mac and QuickBooks for Windows”

I'm an avid Mac user and I've bought many copies of both windows and mac Quickbooks over the years trying to get this feature to work, but to no avail.

My accountant provides me with a my Windows Quickbooks data file every month and I'd LOVE to be able to look at that data and clean it up in Quickbooks for Mac and then return it to my accountant. Please do let me know when this feature works and I'll gladly drop another couple hundred to upgrade.

Use QB for windows only. Support for Mac QB is supposed to be diminishing. Run QB in parallels and you're all set.

Thanks for the update.   After so many years of less than admirable support for Mac, should I say I'm not surprised?   But as an avid Mac fan, I do confess disappointment.

I am also a long time quicken and quickbooks pro 2008 windows user who now owns a mac. I need to share my company files with my accountant who uses windows. I just spoke with the intuit help person who said this can be done but will take 15-20 minutes. It is quite complicated and they suggest I should call them before attempting and they would walk me through it. Please let me know what is really involved. I am very motivated to purchase and USE Quickbook Pro for mac 2009 (and upgrade my accountants computer to 2009).

I'm using quickbooks pro 2008 for the pc and the mac files produced by it cannot be opened by the mac versions of quickbooks pro 2007 or quickbooks 2009. I tried the manual update mentioned above and that didn't work either. There's a definite problem that needs to be addressed.

Up until about a month ago I was able to convert files. I get the same thing as everyone else here. The Mac programs attempt to restore the file but aborts. And I get a message saying the file wasn't restored.

Hello ta78w72,

Please ensure the file extension is (Your Company File Name).MAC.qbb. The steps to accomplish this are:

Go to the File menu, click Utilities, and then click Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac.

Ernesto -

I updated my QB2009 Windows Premier Edition 2009 to the latest updates and it was actually able to create a Mac file that was larger than 88 bytes (it actually came out to about 6MB). In my QB2009 for Mac, however, it can't be opened. It just comes up with "your data has NOT been restored". It looks like progress has been made, but we're not there yet. Any other ideas?

Thanks

I am also unable to export my company file to Mac 2009, but I am using Simple Start 2008. When there is resolution, please post relevant instructions for us Simple Start to Mac 09 converts too (I am getting the same error message "Warning Your Data has not been restored" and 88K file size). Thank you.

Without knowing the main features in QB 9002 that I'm interested in DO NOT WORK (Mac>Windows, Windows>Mac), I am very frustrated with Intuit, to say the least. How can anyone say they are finally treating the Mac platform seriously when it is still impossible to transport files between Mac and Windows?!

Hey ERNESTO, WHEN will the Copy Company File to Quickbooks Mac function properly so that I can get my $400 worth that I just spent on Intuit's non-funcational products (which are on the verge of "false advertising"!) : $199 for Mac QB09 plus another $199 for Windows QB09 w/ payroll?

Very frustrated indeed.

Dear woozleworks, CCTS_Cristina, bbarwick, et al.:

OK, QuickBooks for Windows 2009's "Copy Company File to QuickBooks Mac..." menu command (under File>Utilities) had a bug which caused the output file to be void of data, meaning there was nothing for the Mac to import.

The SOLUTION is to install the R5 update into Windows QB Pro 2009 (Help>Update QuickBooks...).

This seems to have solved the problem, at least for me (about 120,000 transactions in my file), and now the Copy Company File to Mac menu item works just fine without having to edit my Windows file in any way, and double clicking that output file loads smoothly into my QuickBooks for Mac 2009 without blinking (after entering the password, that is).

The resulting Mac QBB file is half the size of the Windows QBB file, and I have NOT yet verified whether the Mac file is missing any data. It's better than nothing, though. And the Mac file opens with "special characters" intact in the memo fields. I found one transaction that kept the memo intact with 91 characters.

FYI.

Intuit said they fixed the problem by updating the windows version of quickbooks pro 2009. I have performed the update, then downloaded the file for mac, but guess what, it still doesn't work. Very frustrating to spend so much money for 2 sets of quickbooks pro 2009 (windows & mac) only to find out they don't work. Intuit should reimburse everyone for all of the downtime we incur because we can't use our mac and for software that doesn't work.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to copy QB Pro 2009 to QB MAC 2009 but am getting the roundtrip error at the end of the restore, so nothing is restored. Has there been a current update to fix this problem? I've tried the fixes I've found online but it doesn't do any good.
