Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. Two Companies with Multi User Access at same time?

US QuickBooks for Macintosh : 2011

Is it possible to access company (1)  on one computer and (2nd) company on other computer?  I have 3 user licenses with 3 computers all in the same office.  I starting over with original company to fix the many errors I have made in the past 10 years - really need a fresh start.  I still need to be abe to work on original company file while my assisitant is entering in all the data to our new file - but I can't seem to acces the old company on my computer while she is working on new file on the other computer.

Perhaps I am hoping for too much.....

You should be able to do that just fine.  You may have network issues that are preventing access to the file, or it may be that your 3 user license is not properly acknowledged by all the computers.  Go to QuickBooks>Manage License>Sync License on all the computers to make sure.

Than youso much for your reply!  I thought I should be able to use both companies.  However - I am not able to do so.  The "new" company is opening just fine on all computers.  The "old" one will only open in single user mode if I 'stop sharing' it on the qb server.  It was sharing just fine before i started the new company file.

I have tried to sync licenses, shut down computers and restart, and have also used the rebuild data utility.  Nothing.  I can see the file in the qb server as being shared but it does not show up in the log in window under shared.  I just don't understand .....

Make sure that all copies of QuickBooks and the Server are on the same release.  Go to the QuickBooks menu (QuickBooks Server 2012 for the server) and check for updates.  Download and install if prompted.

Just wanted to let you know - I finally found a solution.   (I am running QB for Mac 2011) I opened the source file - right click "get info" and changed the Name and Extension to "mycompany.qb2011"

This removed some added extensions/names that were added by qb during updates.  (I am running QB for Mac 2011)
