Transfering QuickBooks files
I have just installed Quickbooks Pro on my new computer. How to I bring over my files from my old computer's QuickBook 2007 program? I am a very novice user.

Did you install QuickBooks 2007 on your new comuter?
If so, make sure you have updated it to the latest release.
On your old computer, create a backup and use a portable device to either save the backup to or copy the backup to. Take the portable device to your new computer.
On the new computer, you will restore the backup.
If you have installed a different year of QuickBooks on your new computer, post back as the procedure will have some more steps to restore and update your data file.
Thanks for the speedy reply! I have the 2010 version on my new computer.
OK. A little extra work then.
Make sure that your 2010 is registered and updated.
You can open sample company to do this. The registration window should come up when you open the sample company. Once you are registered to to Help>Update QuickBooks and follow the steps.
Close QuickBooks and Reopen. You will be asked if you want to install the update say yes. When you reopen QuickBooks, I believe the sample company will open and it will ask if you want to update the file. Say No and I believe that will take you to a window that says No Company File Open. At the bottom of that window, choose Open or Restore and that will open the window giving you your choice of what to do. Follow the steps to Restore. Make sure you know where to find your QuickBooks 2007 backup.
Follow the directions and you should be fine. You will have to update your 2007 to work with your 2010 but if you follow each step in each window, you should be able to proceed. You will have to do another backup before your 2007 will be updated to 2010.
Hope this helps.
