Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Tips on manuvering through this Live Community maze of questions.

Lacerte : 2008

Any tips on manuvering through this maze of questions. When brousing from page to page, I don't even know how many pages there are. There could be 500 pages ahead and I don't know. Is there any overall view of the tree of questions to help us? or any other tips. Thank you.

Use the search button in the upper left. There's not a "tree" per se, although IMHO it would be helpful if this were organized more like a traditional discussion board. It's not really designed for browsing.

(If it helps, in the Live Community thingy at the bottom of your Lacerte screen, questions are somewhat screen-specific. So you're likely to see questions relevant to the screen you're in there. And when you post a question, the search engine dredges up some questions that might be relevant to yours.)

If I wanted phone calls, my phone number would be in my profile. If you have a question, post it in the applicable forum.

I have set up my Live Community to put questions in the order of "latest activity is on top." On a piece of scrap paper near my computer (where I always keep track of what day I last was able to see my daily comics from 3 comic websites) I also write down the latest date and time of the post on the Live Community that I got thru. That way I know I only have to browse thru 1 or 2 pages of screens, and go from bottom to top, to avoid seeing what I already saw that didn't have new info on it. So I keep updating my private record of the last time and date I saw a Lacerte post.

Anyway, the posts on my screen are in a definite order, and I usually know which ones I've seen and which ones have something new on them where I haven't seen the newest comment or answer yet. Hope this helps.

Back up before it's too late. For a professional answer, call Tech Support at 1-800-933-9999 (Lacerte)(other numbers ProSeries, QB, or TurboTax). I am a volunteer, not compensated or supported by Intuit.

Pick the forums you want to "watch" and subscribe. The just setup a rule in your mail program - much easier to peruse e-mails then this forum as it's constantly "moving."

Even with all of them auto-filtered into their own folder and threaded by topic, the e-mails are awful almost to the point of unreadable. Plus the subject line starts with "Intuit Community - New answer for" (or new question, or new comment) before it ever gets to the point, which makes it hard to distinguish emails.

If I wanted phone calls, my phone number would be in my profile. If you have a question, post it in the applicable forum.

What I do with my backwards-chronological-order posts, is to start with the time that is just after the last one I'd read, and then peek at the topics of the ones above. If the topic is something that doesn't pertain to me -- say, DMS which I didn't buy, or California where I no longer have clients -- I skip that post and look at the next one. (Sometimes a post raises a topic I hadn't known about but I learn something from reading it.) Once I note where "in time" I left off, it's easy for me to "pick up" again the next time I get onto the community.
