Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Vicki, two questions:

  1. Which version of QuickBooks for Windows do you currently use?
  2. Will you be using QuickBooks 2010 for Mac on your new Mac? QB 2010 for Mac requires an Intel-based Mac and OS X Leopard (10.5.7 or higher, I believe) or OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.x).

First, you should be sure that you are not using any features that Pro 2009 Windows supports that are not included in the Mac product.  See this comparison grid:

quickbooks.intuit.com/product/accounting-software/quickbooks-comparison-chart.jsp

as well as this 'Switching' page:

quickbooks.intuit.com/product/accounting-software/mac-accounting-software.jsp

(particularly the "Why Stick with Windows?" section)

If none of the 'missing' features is essential to you, then transfer your data by saving it from Pro Windows via the File > Utilities > Copy Company File for Quickbooks Mac command which will create a MAC qbb file that you can then open on the Mac.  Details are in the in-product help, and also this PDF (page 2 - which works with QB Windows 2008, 2009 and 2010):

Please click the "Solved" button if your question has been resolved. (Not so that I get any points - do not really care - but so that others know if the question has been resolved.) Thanks.

I have the same problem but I'm on QB Pro 2001. Can I download a free trial to convert my PC files first, then move them to Mac?
