Statement of retained earnings - QSW

I am trying to create a statement of retained earnings in QuickBooks Statement Writer 2012.  The templates provided for that statement are not useful.  I have tried to modify them with no success.  I can't even include the distributions account line in the statement because it shows up as zero.  Same with the retained earnings account, if I do manage do get an amount to show up for retained earnings by changing dates, it is not the amount I need.

Format needed:

Beginning

Net Income

(Distributions)

Ending

Shouldn't be this hard.  It would be easier to open exel and type up a statement and change the amounts manually.

Also, there seems to be a lot of glitches where I am in a specific row and when I try to change formatting, it changes a different row.  I can move to a different row and make changes fine but if I go back to the problematic row, the formatting changes on a row that I am not in.

Also, why am I forced to format in two programs, once in designer and once in excel.  If I make changes in excel and go back to designer, my excel changes are wiped out and I have to redo those changes.

FSD, ISW, QSW  stop making overhauls that make new problems and refine what you have.
