First, you have to buy and download the software. Somewhere in the process you would need to sign on for PPR(pay per return). When you have the software downloaded, there is a place for adding to your PPR account(under Tools). The amount you pay them is their's forever, so only pay what you need when you need it.
You can add online with a credit card. You need the PPR balance in order to save and print and e-file. So let's say you have one more return to do and there is no money in your PPR account. {Tools}{PPR}{Increase balance} and pay the money. It's that simple.
If you use Pro Series Basic I might not be able to help you. If you use Turbo Tax I might refuse to help you. All others, watch out! ;-)
