show split transaction details for each line item in reports

How does one show split transaction details for each line item in reports - without having the expense account summarized, with the word split' or 'multiple' appearing? Example: Let's say I purchased a $400 desk and a $200 chair at the same time, and I recorded the $600 credit card charge, and split it, using two lines of 'Office Furniture', including detailed memo entries describing what each of the line items was for. When I run the P&L detail or other detail-type reports, however, only one summarized line appears for 'Office Furniture', for $600, with the word 'split' showing. This is not useful, as there are many occasions where I need to review what each line item was for. While I can double-click on the report to expose the underlying transaction, this is not an efficient method for large numbers of these types of transactions. Also, when the report has been exported to Excel, there is obviously nothing to double-click. Bottom line: Is there a way to get QB to report out each seperate line item that had been entered in the split windows, instead of summarizing accounts that had been entered more than once? Thanks in advance.

I found the 'Expand / Collapse' button, but it only shows up on some - not all - types of reports.

It does not, for example, seem to show up on the transaction type reports.

But at least I'm part-way there........

The only report that I have found to do this consistently is the Check Detail and Deposit Detail report.

If you can manipulate those reports to get the information you want, you may have your solution. Even if they are not checks or deposits that you're looking for, you may be able to modify the report to add different types of transactions, such as journal entries.

Reports > Banking > Check Detail

Does this help?

I just came across your question, and hopefully you found this out already - but in case you didn't. When you run your report, click on modify, filter, account, and click on "include split detail?", YES. Then you can export and sort it all out.

I have the same issue as afikoman. Obviously htisw is a deficiency in Quickbookis, as the answer has not been provided in at least 18 months. The split detail in transaction reports is vitally needed!

I knoq=w it is available in Quicken - why not Quickbooks?

Modify Report / Filters  on the right side is a box that is titled "current filter choices"  Click on "detail level / summary only" then click on "remove selected filter"  then click on OK.  You should now have the extra detail you are looking for.

 Hello Redcvcc,

How about when you are running the deposit detail report? Is there any hope of displaying the accounts that were "split"? I just followed your instructions and the split did not go away.

Thanks!

I'm sorry I don't have experience with that. For deposits I used to combine all the checks for the bank deposit then seperate them in QB with a memo stating "1of2, 2of2".  Now I do 1 check per deposit.  I've never had to deal with deposit splits.  Good luck finding your answer.  Even creating your own question instead of tagging it onto this one may get you an answer if you haven't tried that already.

Try the Journal report.   The Deposit report can be modifed to look essentially like the Journal report.  But the Journal report default settings are better.
