Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Should I download the .iif or .qbo file for Quickbooks for Mac 2010?

US QuickBooks for Macintosh : 2010

Since Chase took over WaMu, I have to chose between an .iif or .qbo file to download my transactions. Which should I choose? (I don't want a complicated explanation of the file types, I just want to do the same thing I've always done with WaMu).

I also miss another feature of WaMu's website: it indicated the last download date. Does anyone know how I can easily determine my last online banking download?

qbo is better. This is the first time I heard of a bank supporting IIF for downloads.

I can't remember if QB tracks the last download date. I think what you are probably interested in the last date range chosen for downloads. To avoid this I download in 30 day increments so I don't have to remember this.

I'd be leery of the IIF file. If it's not formatted perfectly for QB for Mac, it could do data damage (or so I understand).

Do you have a business checking account, or are you using a personal account? I see that "Washington Mutual Business Banking" and "Washington Mutual Card Services" are the only ones listed in the list of online-banking financial institutions.

You definitely want the QBO.  A very large advantage is every downloaded transaction has a unique identifier.  This enables QuickBooks to detect and ignore any transaction you are importing twice.

Importing of IIF often results in this as users inadvertently import the same transaction multiple times.
