Setting up new host computer - how to redirect client machines to the new PC?

US QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions : 9.0: Standard

Presently Accountingdesk#3 PC is QB's host and acts as server for QB's. This PC is also used for other activities as well. All client machines access via a network and are pointed to this PC.

We will be installing a new PC called Accounting desk #2 which will be the new host for quickbooks (also used for other activities).  I don't expect a problem loading QB's  and the data base manager onto this new computer and setting it up as host,  but, I am concerned as to how I go about pointing each of the client machines to accounting desk#2. (The accountingdesk#3 PC will be removed from the network).

Usually we  load QB's setting  up the host machine first and then  load QB's on each client machine. During the setup wizard there is an opportunity to point it to the host machine. Since QB's has already been installed on the client machines and I don't need to go through the set up process, exactly where do I go within QB's to redirect the client machines to the new host PC?

I would like to know exactly how to redirect the client machines before I remove the Accountingdesk#3 from the network. We are using ES 9.0 if that makes any difference.

woneill1450,

Thanks for responding. I have already  read those articles and I know how to do a complete multiuser install when QB's is not yet installed on the client machines. I have the host machine installed on the new network and on a new PC. The problem is in moving the client machines to the new network and redirecting the client machines ( already have QB's installed and pointed to accounting desk 3) to accounting desk 2.

I will be working on it this week and if all else fails I can always uninstall and reinstall QB's on the client machines because during the reinstall I know it will ask if I want the PC to be a client and point it to account desk #2.

I am just hoping when I move the client PC's to the new network the data base manager already installed on accounting desk #2  (hosting Qb's) will direct the client PC's to accounting desk #2.

We will see what happens.

Mary
