Sending reports to clients

US QuickBooks Premier : 2009: Accountant

I work for a CPA firm. I do bookkeeping for several clients. The thing I'm having an issue with is that they do not allow me to print any statements for my clients. I have to send them the entire QuickBooks file so they can print their own statements. I'm looking for a way around that. Do any of you simply put a disclaimer on the bottom of any statements or is this just the way it has to be. I'm assuming it's some sort of liability issue to just send statements out without our compilation letter on top of it. I, and the clients, don't want to have to go through that. Thanks!

I work for a CPA also and his insurance forbid doing that. I end up doing the same thing you do but that is what needs to be done.

PLEASE mark this answer as solved (click the button under the answer in the lower, right corner) or post additional questions or comments so that I can be of further assistance. Thanks so much!!!

The solution

CPA's are bound by rulings issued by the American Institute of Certified Accountants. This requires them to include a compilation letter as part of issuing financial statements. Since you are an employee of a CPA firm, you may not issue statements under your own name and since they are then issued under the firm name the ccompilation report is required.

I also presume the CPA owner is reviewing the statements for reasonableness before making them available to the client. The client may use the statements to secure a loan or credit and the CPA firm, not the employyees of that firm are responsible to some degree about informing others of the actual level of service they provided. This is stated in that compilation report.
