I was just doing that very same thing this morning. Sorry, but I have alot of questions and none of the answers. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
Glad to hear that I am not the only one. I have found a lot of information but some of it is conflicting so it is really hard to know what the correct solution is. It sounds as if the search engines continuously change how they look at sites to rank them. Very confusing!
I am very new to this as well and have been staring at different sites for days trying to come up with a solution to my NO BUDGET marketing plan. I'm more confused than when I started! I spent 4 hours yesterday on a "surf for clicks" trading site. What a waste of time! But I did speak to a friend who has an established website that seems to be doing well, and he said his secret is to go on to his website as much as possible through the search engines. He claims the more clicks a site has, the better it is ranked. I haven't tested this yet, but it is worth a try. Good luck to you!
I am new to this myself, but I have been learning a lot from my wife (who works on JumpUp) and from other JumpUp folks. In particular, the following members have given me valuable insights:

One big thing that I've learned is that blogging really helps you do well with search engines. If you blog a lot about a specific topic, which for me is food, then search engines really like how much new content is available. Then, you can either use your blog to point to your other websites, or you can make your blog your website (which is what I am doing). There have been a few conversations on this in the forums. Hope this helps, Jeff
Hi, and welcome to the world of SEO!
I have two recommendations that may help you as you begin to optimize your website. With search engine optimization, there are thousands of factors that will affect your ranking but these documents highlight the fundamentals.

We have submitted some product feeds to the search engine companies and it seems like it is helping to drive more business to our website. We also enrolled in the Google Analytics software so we can see where the traffic is coming from, what page they are going to and where they exit the sight as well as when someone just bounces from the site. It is helping us to determine which product categories might be lacking some appeal. Still have a long way to go but I think we are getting in the right direction.
Hi 4EverActive. Just a thought for you: perhaps the solution is not to be found (or at least not entirely) in the amount of traffic you are getting, but in your conversion ratio. I have to say I'm a HUGE fan of using pay-per-click to drive people to your site. It allows you to test different versions of your site to determine which modifications will lead to the highest conversion ratio (percentage of visitors who become customers).
In my opinion, first work on improving the ability your site has to convert visitors into buyers, then spend more time worrying about driving traffic. (For more info on how to advertise successfully on Google's AdWords, check out www.perrymarshall.com He's the expert on the topic.)
That said, I would never rely exclusively on ppc advertising for traffic. It is, however, exceptionally useful for controlling the other variables while you test modifications of your site so that you can actually get meaningful statistical information.
i agree that using ppc and seo in tandem is often the best way to market online - however some people do not have the margins to make money with ppc.
If you are opting to go about seo on your own, then I would recommend buying seo book, www.seobook.com, although most of the information contained within the book can be found free, it is hard to know which sources to trust and what information is outdated - that book is regulary up-dated and the author is well known within the SEO space.
I've been working this month in improving the ranking in search engine for my web site. I am starting to see goods result, without spending much money. I just followed some basic recomendations. Try to come up with good keywords ( 5 to 10, 50 to 250 characters) that people may use to reach your site. Imagine yourself as a coustomer searching the web for similar services or products offered in your site, what would you type in google? Enter the bests 3 to 5 keywords separated by comma (,) in the Title Header of the web page, in order of popularity. Enter the whole heaywords (5 - 10), separate by commas in the Keyword section of your web page. Write a good description ( no more than 200 characters) of your content and put it in the Description section of your web page. And last but not least, try to have content (words, sentences, paragraphs, menus, phrases, etc.) that use the keywords. Try to repeat the best 3 to 5 keaywords more than 3 times in your content. One last thing that help, is to include Text Links that use your keywords.
I actually have finally made progress in this area. Unfortunately, the one thing it really takes is time, as I've been explaining to my frustrated business partner. First and foremost, submit a sitemap to Google. There are websites that will create one for you for free.
Second, the most important thing you can do is get reciprocal links on other websites. Find businesses online that would like to put your link on their website because it will add value for their customers, and post a link to their site from yours. If you sponsor any sports teams or contribute to any charities, see if they will put a link from their site to yours. The more sites you are linked from, the better your Google ranking. Team up with other small businesses looking to boost their rankings by exchanging links.
The third thing you can do is use good key words in your meta tags, make sure you use descriptive page titles, and also make sure your web content is very specific. Well designed, informational web pages will get better rankings in the end, no matter what.
My business manufactures hand cleaner. We've been in business seven months, and when we use to Google hand cleaner only the major players on the market appeared. Now when I Google hand cleaner, we come up as #17 out of 2, 780,000. We achieved this without any pay-per-click advertising, or using any SEO.
I hope this helps.
A better way to get traffic to your site is to make a flyer. Goto office depot and run off a couple hundred copies. Leave one every where you go. Leave one on the gas pump, Leave a business card with your tip at the dinner.

If you are interested in a local or regional customer base, you can add the City name or metro area to your keywords. If people are searching for a spa or a webmaster in Philadelphia, your site has a good chance of coming up. That may change soon so take advantage of the opportunity before everyone else is doing it.
I'm currently going through the same thing with my new business website. If your site is new, you face an uphill battle to rank high in the search engines. Google places emphasis on how old your domain is, so spammers can't register a domain, stuff it with keywords and rank high for a search phrase. The older your domain, the more "trust" Google puts in your site. It's common sense really, but it is a barrier to new sites with quality content.
Content is the most important aspect. Optimize your pages with your key phrases, use the title tags, alt tags, H1 tags and meta tags for your specific focus. But onpage optimization only goes so far. You need to build good one-way inlinks to your site to build your sites popularity. Sites with many one-way links from sites with similar focus are deemed by the search engines to be "authority" sites and will rank higher than other less-popular sites. Again, this makes sense from the search engine perspective.
I have written several articles on SEO and web design on my website http://www.empoweradvertising.com, and feel free to contact me if anyone needs some pointers.

You have some major SEO issues that need to be addressed in order for your site to perform well in the search engines.
Here is just one of those issues. You do not have a proper 301 Redirect. That is your 4everactive.com version of your URL does not forward to the www.4everactive.com . Your site is being viewed as two different sites by the search engines.
