using quickbooks to pay sales tax for the first time. added opening customer balances dates Jan 1st. Viewing the sales tax report. The opening balances appear as stmtchg as part of my non taxable income. should I date the opening balance 12/31/2011?

I may be able to assist with the Sales Tax Reporting portion:
Go to Reports > Vendor and Payable > Sales Tax Liabilities. At the top left of this report: chose your month, like, "Last Month" for January 2012. If ya don't have the Sales Tax % set-up, email me back, at [removed]
Anyway...Print Report. File your State Sales Tax on-line or however. Print that.
