Sale tags
I want to print SALE tags to replace my inventory tags for items on sale...I have used the markdown tags, but that then changes my regular price for my items.

What version of Point of Sale are using and is it Basic or Pro?
What do you mean by "that then changes my regular price for my items."? Is this on the label or in Point of Sale?

The solution
Look at the sales tag template. Access through the print designer. I did this yesterday and it had fields for the old price and the sales price that I felt were fine for us. Pretty easy to delete and add fields to these templates using print designer.
I have found it VERY useful to download the free 60 day trial of QBPOS pro to learn how to do these things at home. This saves terminal time at work. I got a call from QB and told them what I was doing and they were fine with it. I have learned to do most of the procedures watching TV at home, then transferred my knowledge to work.
It would be very helpful if QBPOS had a practice mode option on the server and workstation. The only way to try stuff on the workstation is to create and then delete transactions, which is not always seamless.
