Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. Revocation of S-Election

I had a client revoke their S election in mid-2007. I prepared a short-year 1120S for that period that I rolled over from 2006. Here's the rub: I need to prepare a short-period C-Corp. return for the 2nd half of 2007. But, it doesn't look like ProSeries will convert an S-Corporation to a C-Corporation. It'll do it the other way around though. The problem is I have a ton of fixed assets already entered into the system, so I'm fairly motivated to find a solution. Has anybody tried to duplicate the 2006 file of an S-corporation, rename the file extension indicate a C-Corporation and try and roll that into the following year?

Proseries won't convert data from one type to another.

However, do you own Fixed Asset Manager? With that, you can export the fixed assets from Proseries, and convert them for use by the C-Corp. I personally like the FAM reports much better than Proseries, so use it for most business clients.

If you get stuck, email me and we can work out a cost for converting them. JimS@snow2cpa.com
