This issue is apparently long outstanding for Intuit and also apparently they do not want to deal with it.  I've read some postings about possible issue/s involved but I think they are weak and tepid at best.  The fact that these things have been ongoing for Intuit for soooo long tells me a lot about the quality of software and engineers at Intuit.

I've worked with many of the software developers at Intuit, they are poorly paid, over-worked and mostly incompetent.

Null Instance is not an error condition. It is confirming there is not another "instance" of QB running. Pro doesn't allow two company data files to be open at the same time.

Are you having some sort of error? Because otherwise, I can't see there is anything wrong in what you posted.

Thank you for taking time to respond to my question.

It is very clear from the log entries I've posted that there is an error condition.  This is an ongoing and persistent issue -- I've seen postings about this going back four years -- and apparently Intuit is well acquainted with the reported condition.  I was very precise about what is going on along with the progression of events. There isn't a case of two QB data files running or in conflict.  However, I do believe there are two or more QB processes in conflict and that IS an error.  I can't interrogate or trace the processes -- I could do trace and block dumps if this were UNIX -- that apparently are in conflict.  I say apparently because I have no proof of error.  However, these errors reported occur during machine startup and are linked to processes configured to start during machine startup.  I didn't configure them, the crappy Intuit installer did that!

Now, if this isn't error then Intuit programmers have errors in how they call the Windows interfaces or logging mechanisms.  But, whatever the cause, this seems to me poor/shoddy programming and should be fixed.

Are you having an operational error? Is something not running, blowing up, etc? Just because the logs have status codes doesn't mean there is an error.

Look at your Event Viewer. The QB programmers throw a status code = 4 often, but they are overstating the condition. This is not a program issue, it is a programmer's code issue, as to if something is stated in an inflammatory text or code issued.

"There isn't a case of two QB data files running or in conflict."

I don't think you understood. There are QB programs that allow you have multiple files open. Yours does not. The Programmers are checking for the condition of "multiple instances." That is not an error; it is a status check.

"Now, if this isn't error then Intuit programmers have errors in how they call the Windows interfaces or logging mechanisms. But, whatever the cause, this seems to me poor/shoddy programming and should be fixed. "

Duh.

Look at how often Windows marks QB as "not responding" but all that is happening is, QB does not "poll" to WIndows while QB is making a backup or restoring a file. You have to keep waiting. Oh, look; it turns out QB was only busy and Windows over-reacted!

Whoa! Your tone and remarks are way out of order.  I'm not interested in hearing anymore from you.  Please desist and move your rhetoric to someone else or I will complain about abusive responses.

Geez! I thought we were sharing a common misery. That is why I remarked "duh." Of course we all suffer from the same issues!

Sorry.

I don't work for Intuit. I am a user, just like you.

Sheesh. Please do not take your frustrations out on the volunteers.
