Retainer applied to Client - Please help!!

US QuickBooks Online Edition : Basic

Hi, I hope you can help me. A customer paid in excess at the beginning of the month. I registered the entry as a liability (retainer) Now I want to apply that amount to the original client, plus different clients from same group. Please Help!! Thank you!

This depends on how you are tracking your retainers...and clients.

The simplest thing would be:

Break out the original retainer deposit by the individual clients that will use it.

Then, apply the retainers to the client invoices via credit memos.

If this is trust accounting, a different procedure would be needed to disburse the trust funds and apply them to the invoices.
