Restoring Quickbooks from external Hard Drive

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows

Trying to restore Quickbooks 2010 company information off of external hard drive to new computer. Old computer crashed. I keep getting 6144, 82 saying permission is not granted. What do I need to do?

The solution

Try copying the backup from the external drive to your hard drive or desktop first.  QB often doesn't play well with external drives.
