Attempting to restore a Mac .qbb file to Windows, I select the file but get an error message that the file name is too long or is not a valid file name. I didn't change the file name, just selected the .qbb file on the CD.
Make sure that you don't have any special characters in the file name, like !@#$%^&*
QB for Windows doesn't like those. If you do, save the file to your Windows desktop and change it before trying to restore it in QB
The file name did have an & in it, so I did as you suggested. However, even with the new name without special characters, I still get the same error message about file name being too long or invalid.
I would rename the file to something quite simple and short, however it is possible that the error message doesn't mean what it says... (Don't you love that?)
Also make sure that you are trying to restore the backup copy from your local computer, like the desktop, and not from the CD.
The new name is short and sweet and that's definitely what I'm trying to restore from. I think you're onto something...the message doesn't mean what it says. Thanks anyway for trying.
It's also possible that the problem lies in the file itself. On the Mac run file>utilities>verify data and rebuld data.
