Reporting a minor's earned income of $1400.00 reported on a 1099-misc

Does a minor need to file a separate tax return for earned income (reported on 1099-misc) in the amount of $1400.00? Or can it be reported on parent's return as Other Income? Minor is 15 years old, helped out at a summer program and was paid $1400.00. Minor has no other income.

Unfortunately minor has to report income, not parents. Is it in Box 7 or Box 3? Tax might be less on minors return anyway.

It needs to be reported on the minors tax return.

I assume this is Form 1099 MISC and the income is reported in Box 7..

Are you reporting it on the Form 1099 MISC form box 7 to Schedule C or are you reporting it to Line 7 of Form 1040 as wages.

Definitely the minor must report this income.

Yes, it was a 1099-Misc (Nonemployee compensation). I guess I'll be reporting it on a Schedule C if taxpayer can come up with any expenses. Thanks for the responses.

It's also subject to SE tax.

Could this nonemployee compensation be considered :income from a not-for-profit activity since it was paid by the County of Maui for minor's participation in programs that assist children? If so, would this then be reportable on line 21 on Form 1040 as other income? Would this also mean that no schedule C needs to be filed and no SE tax needs to be paid?
